For Day Masters in the Overly Weak state (drain/control at 80%+, DM nearly rootless) — yongshen selection must break out of the 'weak means support' reflex. Overly Weak cannot be supported — there's no foundation to build on. Force support and the consequences are: the support energy gets counter-pressured by the drain/control side, and the DM doesn't just fail to stand — it gets crushed from both sides (support force + control force sandwich the DM). The correct yongshen strategy for Overly Weak is follow the current. Option one: fully submit to the drain/control side (Follower pattern path). Option two: use Output to drain the excess from the drain/control side (reducing pressure on the DM). Exception: if a strong Seal star stands guard protecting the DM, light support is possible — the Seal siphons the control force and transforms it into productive energy for the DM.

Overly Weak yongshen strategy — normal support is off the table. Best options: ① Follow the current (Follower pattern — submit to the drain/control side). ② Drain the problematic (use Output to siphon the drain/control side, reducing pressure on DM). ③ Seal protection (if a strong Seal guards the DM, light support becomes viable). Never use Companion to brute-force it — Companion can't carry the load and only increases damage.

1. Why normal support fails for the Overly Weak

Normal support requires the Day Master to have root. With root, support energy can anchor at the root — root solid, support effective. The Overly Weak DM has extremely weak root or none at all. Support energy arrives, finds no anchor point at the DM, and drifts away. Worse, the arrival of support energy agitates the drain/control side — they don't want the DM standing up. Result: the DM absorbs a double hit — the support that didn't land plus the counterattack it provoked. Only one scenario bends this: the chart contains a hyper-strong Seal star (and this Seal is itself one of the chart's strongest forces). The Seal's protective power buffers the support-triggered backlash enough for light support to work.

2. Follow the current — the Overly Weak DM's best path

Submit to the chart's strongest faction (the drain/control side). Drain/control side is Wealth = Follow Wealth (cóng cái, 从财). Drain/control side is Officer/Killing = Follow Officer/Killing (cóng guān cóng shā, 从官从杀). Drain/control side is Output = Follow Output (cóng ér, 从儿). Following the current isn't surrender — it's joining the winning team and securing a position and benefit from within. Overly Weak people who follow the current often don't look weak to outsiders — because they've aligned with the strongest force and thrive inside that environment. They've found their niche in the dominant current.

3. Drain the problematic — indirect pressure relief

When the conditions for a Follower pattern aren't fully met — say, a micro-root exists plus a protective Seal, creating a 'false follower' (jiǎ cóng, 假从) rather than a true one — take the drain-the-problematic path. Use Output to drain the drain/control side — let Output consume some of the excess force, so the remainder hitting the DM is lighter. Draining the problematic isn't as clean as following the current — but it's massively better than forced support. Overly Weak people in Output luck cycles feel the pressure dial down. In Companion cycles? The support attempt makes things actively worse.

4. The false-follower trap — when you almost follow but not quite

False followers (jiǎ cóng) are common: the chart has Follower tendencies but a micro-root or weak Seal breaks the purity. The trap: treating a false follower like a true one. A true follower can ride the dominant current cleanly. A false follower rides it bumpily — the micro-root keeps trying to assert independence at the wrong moments, causing turbulence. Strategy for false followers: during drain/control-favorable cycles, act like a follower. During support cycles (rare but they happen), the micro-root briefly activates — use those windows for small independent moves, but don't overreach. False followers live in the cracks between systems.
