Bazi Follow-Officer Pattern: Formation and Break Points — Analysis of a Pattern That Submits to Direct Officer

The Follow-Officer Pattern is a special pattern where the Day Master submits to the Direct Officer's dominance. This article explains the formation conditions, differences from Follow-Killing, luck-cycle affinities, and break-point risks.

Follow-Officer Pattern: Submitting to Rules

Follow-Officer Pattern — submitting to systems and order

The Follow-Officer Pattern is a type of Follow Pattern — the DM is extremely weak; globally Direct Officer forms dominance; the DM submits to the Officer star. Unlike Follow-Killing's submission driven by 'fear' of Seven Killings, Follow-Officer submits to the Officer star's 'rules' — this is a submission to order and systems. People with the Follow-Officer Pattern are naturally adapted to structured organizational environments.

What Follow-Officer submits to is Direct Officer — the Officer star represents rules, order, and management. People with Follow-Officer thrive within institutional frameworks. Taboo: Output breaking Officer (Hurting Officer meets Officer), and Companion supporting the body to break the pattern.

1. Formation Conditions of the Follow-Officer Pattern

The formation of the Follow-Officer Pattern requires the Direct Officer to form absolute dominance — globally the Officer star is strong with solid roots in the Earthly Branches (ideally the month branch itself is the Officer star), it penetrates the Heavenly Stems and is not restrained. The Day Master is entirely rootless — as with all Follow Patterns, the DM has absolutely no root qi in the Earthly Branches. Output cannot be forceful — Output restrains Officer (Eating God and Hurting Officer restrain Direct Officer); if Output has root and is forceful, the Follow-Officer foundation is destroyed. The Wealth star can appear — Wealth produces Officer, strengthening the Officer star's force, which is beneficial to Follow-Officer. The Direct Officer Pattern most favors Wealth producing Officer. The ideal Follow-Officer configuration: Direct Officer forms dominance + DM rootless + Wealth star has root and produces Officer + no rooted Output. Follow-Officer has a high purity requirement — because Direct Officer is a 'benevolent god'; once the pattern is mixed (Officer-Killing mixed), the meaning of Follow-Officer is lost.

2. Differences Between Follow-Officer and Follow-Killing

Follow-Officer and Follow-Killing share many similarities — both involve the DM submitting to a body-restraining Ten God. But the different objects of submission lead to differences in pattern character. Follow-Officer submits to Direct Officer — Direct Officer is a 'benevolent god'; its method of body restraint is gentle and rule-based. People with Follow-Officer live within 'institutional frameworks' — rules are clear and predictable. Follow-Killing submits to Seven Killings — Seven Killings is an 'inauspicious god'; its method of body restraint is intense and unpredictable. People with Follow-Killing live in 'high-pressure environments' — rules are fluid and full of uncertainty. Follow-Officer people tend to develop steadily within institutions by following rules; Follow-Killing people tend to carve a bloody path through competition. The break-point risks of the two also differ — Follow-Officer most fears Output (Hurting Officer meets Officer); Follow-Killing most fears Eating God controlling Killing. Both fear Resource-Companion supporting the body.

3. Luck-Cycle Affinities and Taboos

Follow-Officer's luck-cycle affinities: favorable — Wealth-Officer cycles (Wealth produces Officer, strengthening pattern force; Officer cycles strengthen the pattern's core). During Wealth-Officer cycles, career goes smoothly and position rises steadily. Taboo: Output cycles — Output restrains Officer, directly destroying Follow-Officer's pattern foundation. During Output cycles, rebellion against rules, conflict with authority, and position instability may occur. Taboo: Resource-Companion cycles — Resource-Companion supports the body; the DM gains strength and wants independence; the Follow Pattern faces break-point risk. During Resource cycles, the DM may want to challenge the existing system or leave the organization to go independent. Taboo: Officer-Killing mixed cycles — the Direct Officer Pattern most fears Seven Killings coming to mix. When the major cycle enters a Seven Killings cycle, the pattern may shift from Follow-Officer to Follow-Killing — the object of submission changes, and the pattern's nature changes with it.

Practical Application Points

  • Follow-Officer fears Output — most fears 'rebellion' : Output restraining Officer is the most direct break-point threat to Follow-Officer. During Output cycles, do not challenge rules and authority — that is an impulse brought by the luck cycle.
  • Follow-Officer thrives within institutions : Leverage the advantage of adapting to rules and systems to develop in large organizations, government agencies, public institutions, and other structured environments.
  • Distinguish clearly from Follow-Killing — the object of submission is different : Follow-Officer submits to rules (gentle); Follow-Killing submits to pressure (intense). The key to judgment: whether the global master is Direct Officer or Seven Killings.

Common Follow-up Questions

Q: Is a Wealth cycle good for Follow-Officer?
