Follow-Resource Pattern — a pattern that is very well protected
The Follow-Resource Pattern is a special member of the Follow Pattern family. The DM is extremely weak; globally the Resource star forms dominance; the DM submits to Resource. Unlike Follow-Wealth (submitting to profit) or Follow-Killing (submitting to pressure), Follow-Resource submits to 'the force that protects itself' — Resource produces and supports the DM; the DM following Resource is like a child following a parent, a state of being protected.
The Follow-Resource DM submits to the Resource star — Resource produces the body; the DM is in a state of being protected and nourished. This Follow Pattern is relatively gentle, not as high-pressure as Follow-Killing or Follow-Wealth. But an overly strong Resource also carries the risk of 'spoiling.'
1. Formation Conditions of the Follow-Resource Pattern
The Follow-Resource Pattern requires the Resource star to form absolute dominance — globally the Resource star is strong with solid roots in the Earthly Branches (ideally a Three Harmony Resource combination or Three Assembly Resource direction), it penetrates the Heavenly Stems and is not restrained. The Day Master is entirely rootless — as with all Follow Patterns, the DM has absolutely no root qi in the Earthly Branches. The Wealth star cannot be forceful — Wealth restrains Resource (Wealth destroys Resource); if the Wealth star has root and is forceful, the Resource star's absolute dominant position will be challenged. What Follow-Resource most fears is Wealth destroying Resource. Officer-Killing can appear — Officer-Killing produces Resource (Officer produces Resource, Killing produces Resource); the appearance of Officer-Killing is actually good — they provide the Resource star with an endless stream of producing force. The ideal Follow-Resource configuration: Resource forms dominance + DM rootless + Officer-Killing has root and produces Resource + no forceful Wealth destroying Resource. Under this configuration, pattern purity is extremely high.
2. Differences Between Follow-Resource and Other Follow Patterns
The Follow-Resource Pattern has several unique features within the Follow Pattern family. The object of submission is a 'produces me' Ten God — other Follow Patterns all submit to Ten Gods that restrain or drain the DM (Wealth restrains me, Killing restrains me, Output drains me). Follow-Resource submits to a Resource that neither restrains nor drains but instead produces and supports the DM; the submission experience is completely different — it is a submission of 'being protected' rather than 'being suppressed.' Pattern pressure is lower than other Follow Patterns — the Follow-Killing DM lives in fear (suppressed); the Follow-Wealth DM lives in pursuit (driven by profit). The Follow-Resource DM lives under protection (nourished), with relatively harmonious interpersonal relationships. But this also brings the Follow-Resource weakness: the DM may over-rely on Resource's protection and lack independent survival skills. Once luck cycles reach Wealth cycles (Wealth destroys Resource) or Companion cycles (body support breaks the pattern), the DM faces a 'loss of protection' situation, and adaptability may be inferior to that of Follow-Killing or Follow-Wealth people.
3. Luck-Cycle Affinities and Taboos
Follow-Resource's luck-cycle affinities: favorable — Officer-Killing cycles (strengthen Resource's producing source — Officer produces Resource, Killing produces Resource; the Resource star's dominance becomes even more stable). Favorable: Resource cycles (strengthen the pattern's core force). Taboo: Wealth cycles (Wealth destroys Resource, directly attacking the pattern's core). Taboo: Companion cycles (Companion supports the body; the DM gains strength and may want independence — but viewing the whole chart, the pattern structure still has Resource as the master; DM independence instead disrupts the balance). During Wealth cycles, Follow-Resource people must be especially careful: when Wealth destroys Resource, the DM loses the 'protective umbrella' and may face ruptures in academic or career support, the departure of benefactors, and damaged reputation. During Companion cycles, the contradictory state of 'wanting independence but not yet ready' may appear; gradual progress rather than a sudden break from the existing support system is advised.
