The essence of Huaqi Ge is 'Day Master changes nature' — through heavenly stem combinations, the Day Master abandons its original five-element identity and becomes the element after transformation. The pattern is rebuilt around the transformed spirit as its core.
1. The Five Types of Huaqi Ge
There are five basic types of Huaqi Ge, corresponding to the five heavenly stem combinations. Jia-Ji Transforming to Earth pattern — Jia Wood Day Master meeting Ji Earth (month stem or hour stem); Jia-Ji combine transforming to Earth. After successful transformation, the Day Master changes from Jia Wood to Wu Earth (the transformed spirit is Earth); the pattern is rebuilt around Earth as its core. 2. Formation Conditions of Huaqi Ge
The establishment of Huaqi Ge requires strict combination-transformation conditions. The heavenly stem combination must occur between the Day Master and the month stem or hour stem — the day pillar and month pillar or hour pillar's heavenly stems form a combination. The closer the position, the more powerful the transformation. The earthly branches must have strong root support for the transformed spirit — combination-transformation isn't just about two characters on the heavenly stems; the earthly branches need roots of the transformed spirit to support successful transformation. For Jia-Ji combining to Earth, the earthly branches ideally have Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei (Earth) or Si, Wu (Fire — Fire generates Earth supporting the transformed spirit). The month-branch should ideally support the transformed spirit — the month-branch is the prosperous ground of the transformed spirit or an element that generates/supports it. For Jia-Ji transforming to Earth, the month-branch should ideally be Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei (Earth months) or Si, Wu (Fire months — Fire generates Earth). The combination-transformation must not be clashed/restrained — if other heavenly stems clash or restrain either party of the combination (dashing Jia or Ji away), the transformation fails. Huaqi Ge's requirements for combination-transformation conditions are very strict — a Huaqi Ge with insufficient conditions is a 'false transformation,' and the pattern hierarchy is significantly discounted.
3. Pattern Reconstruction After Transformation and Luck Cycles
After successful transformation, the entire pattern's analytical framework must be torn down and rebuilt. The Day Master is re-characterized per the transformed spirit's element — after Jia-Ji transforms to Earth, the Day Master is viewed as Wu Earth (or Ji Earth). All Ten Gods are recalculated per the new Day Master. The pattern is re-determined per the transformed spirit's pattern, and yongshen is re-chosen. Luck cycles favor elements that generate/support the transformed spirit — after Jia-Ji transforms to Earth, Fire is favorable (Resource star generates Earth) and Earth is favorable (Companion assists Earth). Next favorable is Metal (Output expresses elegance — transformed spirit Earth generates Metal). Unfavorable: elements that restrain the transformed spirit — after Jia-Ji transforms to Earth, Wood is unfavorable (Officer/Killing restrains Earth) and Water is unfavorable (Wealth star drains Earth). Huaqi Ge's breakage risk comes from the combination-transformation being disrupted — when luck cycles clash/restrain one party of the combination, the combination disintegrates, and the pattern retreats from Huaqi Ge back to the original pattern. Huaqi Ge is the most 'changeable' type among patterns — because the pattern's foundation (heavenly stem combination) itself is relatively fragile.
