Mangpai Body, Constitution, Target: The Three-Layer Framework for Reading a Chart

The mangpai three-layer framework splits every chart into Body (root), Constitution (toolkit), and Target (life objective). Match your tools to your target — that's the wealth-and-power code.

Mangpai Body, Constitution, Target: The Three-Layer Framework for Reading a Chart

You didn't get a birth chart. You got a weapons arsenal and a target list.

Traditional Ziping uses day-master strength to set the chart pattern. Mangpai doesn't. Mangpai splits the chart into three layers: Body (who you are), Constitution (what you can do), and Target (what you want). These aren't theoretical categories — they're the operating framework that directly produces chart-reading conclusions. The layer concept comes from blind masters' oral tradition, and it's more battle-tested than the Ten Gods approach.

Body is the foundation — no root still means possible wealth but nothing stays. Constitution is your tool system — it decides how much wealth and power you can grab. Target is the prey — constitution-target match is the real wealth code.

1. Body: Not strength — can you stand?

Traditional bazi hears 'body' and jumps to day-master strength. Strong or weak, favorite or hostile gods. Mangpai tosses that framework entirely. The mangpai 'Body' asks one question: does the day master have a root? Is that root damaged? A rooted day master can stand. It can carry wealth and power. A chart can drip with wealth and official stars — but if the day master has no root, you've got a luxury car with no engine. Beautiful, but it won't move. Rootless people can still make money. But the pressure grinds them. Money rushes in, money rushes out. The body often breaks. Blind masters had a saying: 'Don't fear too much wealth and power — fear a broken root.' Protect the root and you survive any Luck Pillar. Lose the root and even good fortune is someone else's wedding dress.

2. Constitution: Your tool system

Constitution includes Seal, Eating God and Hurting Officer, Friend and Rob Wealth, and Salary God. Seal is your mind — thinking, learning, the legitimacy of your authority. Eating God and Hurting Officer are your skills — hands-on ability, creativity, self-expression. Friend and Rob Wealth are your limbs — execution power, physical energy, your social network. Salary is your body-double, your energy reserves. A strong Constitution doesn't mean a strong Body. Plenty of people have weak Bodies but strong Constitutions — sharp minds, rock-solid skills, just a thin physical foundation. Constitution is like a weapons locker. One person grabs a legendary sword (Seal transforming Killing). Another grabs a hoe (Friend smashing Wealth). Wealth and power come down to whether your Constitution matches your Target. Strong Constitution, weak Target — horsepower, no road. Weak Constitution, strong Target — opportunities everywhere but your hands are too slow.

3. Target: What you actually want

Target is simple. Wealth and Official. Wealth is material resources. Official is power and position. Mangpai doesn't treat Target as a hostile god to balance out. It treats it as prey. Your Constitution is the hunter's toolkit. Target is the animal. The question is never 'should I hunt this animal?' It's 'can my tools bring this animal down?' Wealth and Official in the Year and Month pillars — that's outside the house. You need your household Constitution to go get them. Seal transforms Official into authority. Eating God generates Wealth for profit. Friend merges with Wealth to acquire. Target that sits in the Day and Hour pillars is already inside the house. The resources are already yours. No need to fight outside. But you better have the strength to hold onto them.

4. The three layers working together

The core logic: Body (can you carry it) × Constitution (what tools) × Target (what goal). All three must align. Rooted Body + matched Constitution and Target = middle class and above. Rooted Body + strong Constitution and Target = full-spectrum wealth and power. Rootless Body + strong Constitution and Target = wild swings, sudden wealth then sudden poverty. Rooted Body + weak Constitution and Target = ordinary person, stable but no big wins. Rootless Body + weak Constitution and Target = illness and disaster, low quality of life. Re-read the palace positions through the three layers too. Year and Month are 'external Target' — society's wealth and power opportunities. Day and Hour are 'household Constitution' — your own skills and resources. The mangpai bottom line is always one sentence: use your household Constitution to seize external Target.

5. Constitution-Target and the Ten Gods

When Seal is your Constitution, you acquire wealth and power through transformation — Official producing Seal, Killing producing Seal. This is the highest-grade acquisition path. Seal represents legal authority. Transform Killing into power and you're working inside the system. When Eating God and Hurting Officer are your Constitution, acquisition happens through generation or suppression — generate Wealth with skill, suppress Killing with ability. When Friend and Rob Wealth are your Constitution, acquisition happens through direct suppression or merging — hands-on labor. The lowest tier. But merging Wealth beats suppressing Wealth, because merging has the flavor of trade. Constitution-Target match creates a pattern. Mismatch creates a structure, not a pattern. Patterns are the ideal. Structures are reality's compromise. Mangpai doesn't obsess over names — it only looks at work efficiency.

Dimensions

Career & Wealth

A rooted day master carries wealth and power. Constitution-Target match means career results. A rootless day master is a car with no engine — wealth and power never last. The key is whether the day master has root, and whether that root has been damaged. Root intact: wealth is possible. Root severed: everything goes to zero.

Love & Relationship

Constitution-Target match is the core marriage lens. Day Pillar is Constitution, Wealth and Official are Target. A man with Wealth on the Day Branch has money at home. A woman with Official on the Day Branch has authority at home. Weak Constitution, strong Target men get controlled by women. Strong Constitution, weak Target women look down on their partners.

Personality

Heavy Seal-Constitution people overthink — lots of planning, little doing. Eating God and Hurting Officer types act fast, have skills, and get impulsive. Friend and Rob Wealth types execute hard, value loyalty, and are stubborn as stone. Every Constitution has its blind spot. No perfect toolkit exists.

Health

A rooted day master has energy. Root damaged means a weak, sickly body. Pierced Salary god leads to overwork. Attacked Seal star leads to overthinking and insomnia. Constitution state directly hits the body: weak Eating God means poor digestion. Weak Friend means weak limbs.

Classic Sources

Practical Application

  • First: check if the day master has root : The first thing to check is not strength — it's whether the Day Branch, Month Branch, or Hour Branch holds the day master's root (Salary, Emperor Prosperity, Birth). Has root and it's not attacked? This person can carry weight. No root? See if they can borrow one — Friend stars in Year and Month can also serve as root.
  • Determine what tool the Constitution uses : Look at which of Seal, Eating God/Hurting Officer, or Friend sticks close to the day master on the Month Stem or Hour Stem. Seal close by: makes a living with the brain. Eating God/Hurting Officer close by: makes a living with skills. Friend close by: makes a living with sweat or connections. Month Stem takes priority over Hour Stem — Month is the career palace.
  • See where Target sits : Wealth and Official on Day and Hour are household resources. No need to go out and fight — just guard them. Wealth and Official on Year and Month are external. Your Constitution has to go acquire them. The acquisition method is work — Constitution suppressing Target, Constitution merging with Target, Constitution transforming Target: all are work.

Common Questions

Q: Mangpai doesn't look at day-master strength. So how do you tell if someone can get rich?

A:

Look at Constitution-Target match. Can your Constitution (your skills) and your Target (the wealth and power you want) produce effective work? Too many Friend stars but weak Wealth — you've got muscle and nowhere to swing it. That's the wage-earner chart. Strong Eating God that also generates Wealth — your skills turn directly into money. You eat what you kill. Strength has nothing to do with it.

Q: Does a 'weak body' in mangpai mean poor physical health?

A:

Not necessarily. Mangpai 'weak body' isn't judged by the traditional strength scale. If the day master has root, it's not weak — even if it's just a sliver of root energy. True poor health comes when the day master has no root AND the Constitution is wrecked — Salary pierced, Seal star crushed by Wealth. A simple weak body (rootless day master but strong Constitution) is often someone with a thin physical base but high energy — they burn out easily.
